Trauma Informed Care Specialist

Arrow Child & Family Ministries is seeking a Trauma Informed Care Specialist for our 90-day, residential diagnostic program. The selected candidate will possess knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals who have experienced significant trauma through the application of positive behavior supports. The Behavior Specialist will develop and implement behavior plans that address inappropriate behaviors and provide means to help children be successful in both academic and residential settings. This includes but is not limited to participating in treatment team meetings, training staff and implementation of the trauma informed care model, Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and develop behavior plans for identified children that require substantial supplemental behavior intervention and support.

Supervisory responsibilities

This position is responsible for the training and development of all program employees. Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior and understanding principles of TBRI, analyzing behavior, provide leadership to others through example and coaching, comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to your direct supervisor, conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation meetings and ensure a safe non-threatening, nurturing environment where residents can thrive. Responsibilities may also include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance including coaching and future performance development; manages training needs through learning management system; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintain quality improvement goals and address at regularly scheduled staff meetings. Oversee client delivery and insure performance measurements and outcomes are met.

Education, Licensure and/or Experience

Bachelor's Degree preferred, with at least three (3) years' experience working with children and families preferably in the child welfare industry and one (1) year of experience working with a trauma informed care model. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, at least five (5) years' experience working with children and families preferably in the child welfare industry and two (2) years' experience working with a trauma informed care model.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the ministry.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver's license, appropriate insurance and reliable car.
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must submit to pass random drug tests during employment.
  • Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have occasional contact with cleaning solvents, aromatics and nuisance dusts. Some locations may require PCM (Professional Crisis Management) Training.

Occasionally required to climb stairs Occasionally required to bend, stoop, crouch or required to stand from a kneeling position, with both knees down, 5 times in one minute
